Almost every number written about Skool engagement is either a guess or a screenshot of one person's community. We had a way to do better, so we did: this page reports the Skoolgrades Participation Benchmark, July 2026, computed directly from 20 real Skool communities that use Skoolgrades, covering 6,493 members and 2,403 posts.
It is a small sample and we say so throughout. Read the methodology section before quoting any of this — it is the most important part of the page.
What is the average participation rate in a Skool community?
The median Skool community in this sample had 27.4 percent of its members participate at least once over 90 days, where participating means leaving a comment, a comment reply, or a poll vote — an actual interaction, not a page load. Half the communities sat between 15.3 and 34.4 percent.

The spread is the finding. A sixteen-fold gap separates the least and most participatory community in a sample of twenty, which means there is no single number you should be measuring yourself against. If someone tells you the benchmark for Skool engagement is one specific percentage, they are describing one community and calling it a law.
Worth being precise about what this is not. Participation rate is a deliberately harsh measure of real interactions. A visit-based engagement rate counts a member who opened the page and did nothing, and as of July 2026 Skool's own dashboard reports engagement on a visit basis — Skool ships changes often, so check your own. Why is the pooled number so much lower than the median?
Pooling every member in the sample into one calculation gives 15.7 percent, well under the 27.4 percent median, because one community in the sample has 2,259 members and drags the pooled figure toward its own low rate. That gap between the two numbers is itself instructive.
If you add up all 6,493 members and ask how many participated, you get 15.7 percent. If you instead compute each community's own rate and take the middle one, you get 27.4 percent. Neither is wrong. The pooled figure answers "what happens to the average member on Skool"; the median answers "what happens in the average Skool community." Community owners almost always want the second one, and almost every published statistic quietly gives them the first.
Does participation drop as a Skool community gets bigger?
Participation falls as communities grow, clearly and consistently: communities under 200 members had a median participation rate of 29.6 percent, while communities of 200 or more had a median of 16.5 percent — roughly half. Splitting the sample of 20 in two gives ten communities on each side of that line.
Rank the twenty communities by size and by participation rate and the two orderings run against each other at a Spearman correlation of -0.56. That is a strong relationship for a sample this small, and it matches what owners report anecdotally: the room gets quieter as it fills up.
Two practical consequences follow. First, if you are comparing your 600-member community against a 60-member community's engagement screenshot, you are not losing — you are measuring a different thing. Second, growth and participation are in genuine tension, so "grow the community" and "make the community livelier" are competing goals that need to be sequenced rather than pursued at once. What is the best day of the week to post on Skool?
There is no best day. Across 26,282 real interactions over 180 days in these same communities, the busiest day of the week captured 15.6 percent of all activity and the quietest captured 13.2 percent — a spread of just 2.4 percentage points, where a perfectly even week would put every day at 14.3 percent.

Two things in that table are worth sitting with. Saturday, which conventional advice treats as dead, ranks third. Tuesday, which conventional advice frequently names as the golden day, ranks last. And the whole range is narrow enough that the ordering could plausibly reshuffle with a larger sample, which is precisely the point: the day you post is not where your leverage is.
That is a more useful conclusion than a fake winner. Owners spend real energy timing posts to a specific weekday, and this data says that energy buys almost nothing. What the post says, and whether the right people see it, matter enormously more. Best time to post on Skool goes into the hour-of-day picture, which is less flat but heavily confounded by where your members live.
How many other Skool communities are my members in?
The median member is following 15 other Skool communities, measured across 2,909 members who were active on Skool within the last 30 days. A quarter follow 6 or fewer, a quarter follow 35 or more, and the top ten percent follow 71 or more.
- 79 percent follow at least 5 communities.
- 62 percent follow at least 10.
- Only 9 percent are effectively in yours alone.
Your community is competing for attention against roughly fourteen others in a typical member's account. A member who has gone quiet with you is usually not a person who left Skool — they are a person whose attention landed somewhere else on Skool. Those are completely different problems, and only one of them is fixable by you. Cross-community activity covers what to do with that signal.
How was this measured, and what are its limits?
The sample is 20 Skool communities using Skoolgrades, containing 6,493 members and 2,403 posts, with participation measured over the 90 days ending 29 July 2026 and day-of-week measured over 180 days. A community was included if it was not a demo account, had at least 25 members, and had at least 10 posts collected in the window — you cannot measure participation in a room where nothing was published.
The limits, stated plainly:
- Twenty communities is a small sample. Treat every figure here as an indication of shape, not a precise constant. We report the median and quartiles rather than a single average for exactly this reason.
- It is not a random sample of Skool. These are communities whose owners chose to install an analytics tool, which likely skews toward more engaged and more deliberate owners.
- Participation excludes likes. Skoolgrades does not capture per-post likes, so participation here means comments, comment replies and poll votes. The true interaction rate is somewhat higher than reported.
- The cross-community figure covers members active on Skool in the last 30 days, because that is the population we enrich. Less active members are underrepresented, and their community counts are probably lower.
- We are not reporting churn or growth rates, because our observation window is too short to measure change over time honestly. A retention curve built on a few weeks of history would be an artifact of when we started watching.
We will restate these numbers as the sample grows. Anyone is welcome to cite them with the date and the sample size attached.
How do I work out my own participation rate?
Take the number of distinct members who left a comment, reply or poll vote in the last 90 days, divide it by your total member count, and multiply by 100. Then compare against the size band you are actually in — under 200 members, expect something near 29.6 percent; at 200 or more, expect something near 16.5 percent.
Doing that by hand means scrolling every post and tallying names, which is why most owners never do it twice.
