There is a simple test for whether your community is local or global, and it does not require asking anyone where they live. Look at what happens to your feed overnight.
How quiet does a Skool community get?
Across 468 communities and 472,119 posts, a median 7.2% of posts land in the community's quietest six hours of the day.
That number only means something next to its reference points, so here they are:
A community whose members all live in one timezone would post essentially nothing while they sleep — near 0%. A community with members everywhere and no rhythm at all would spread evenly — 25%. The median Skool community sits at 7.2%, which is meaningfully awake at night but still recognisably shaped by a clock.
Two thirds of communities never fully go quiet — their quietest six hours still carry at least 5% of posts. Only 6.6% have a genuine dead zone, where the quietest stretch drops under 1%.
Does community size change this?
Sharply, and this is the finding:
Of 101 communities over 5,000 members, not one has a six-hour stretch carrying under 1% of its posts. That zero is a count, not an estimate — it can be stated without a hedge.
Small communities, by contrast, go dark about one time in five. Which is exactly what you would expect: a 120-member room is often one person's audience from one country, while an 8,000-member room has picked up people everywhere almost as a side effect of its size.
The obvious objection is that bigger communities simply post more, and more posts fill more hours. That was tested. Holding post volume constant at 150–600 posts per community, the quiet-hour share still climbs from 3.7% in small communities to 9.5% in the largest — sixty times the members against 1.6 times the posts, and the spread still grows two and a half times. The gradient tracks membership, not how much a community writes.
The limit worth stating: this measures a community's clock, not its members' passports. A 24-hour posting rhythm is strong evidence that a roster spans timezones, but it cannot name a single member's location and should never be presented as if it could.
What does this mean for when you post?
It means the standard advice is backwards for most people.
If you are small, you probably do have a best time to post, and it is probably close to your own working day. A room that goes dark for six hours has a clock, and posting into the dark wastes the post. About one small community in five is in this position outright, and most of the rest lean heavily in one direction.
If you are large, "best time to post" matters much less than you think. There is no hour at which your community is asleep. Chasing a peak buys you a marginal improvement; what actually costs you reach is that members are online a median of about 47 minutes a week, so most of them miss most things whenever you post. How much time members spend on Skool is the more consequential constraint.

Why does a community that never sleeps matter?
Because it changes what your community is for.
A room that goes quiet overnight is a local club with a schedule. People check in during their day, at roughly the same time as each other, and the rhythm is shared. That is a genuine advantage for live sessions and synchronous events — everybody is available at once.
A room that never sleeps is something else. There is always someone reading, which means a question posted at any hour gets an answer, but it also means there is no moment when everyone is present. Live events become a decision about which third of your members you are excluding, and the answer is never zero. The best days and times to go live is a different calculation from the best time to post for exactly this reason.
The transition between those two states happens somewhere between a few hundred and a few thousand members, and most owners cross it without noticing that the rules changed.
